I remember spending summers out on my great granmaw farm and watching her make lye soap (I think she used fireplace ashes too)in the backyard in a big ole black kettle over a open fire and stirring it with a wooden paddle/oar...lordy,I just aged myself...LOL. It seems so complicated but I do so want to learn so I have something to do during the winters to sell at farmers market. What's the best reading for soap dummies....and easiest recipes?

P.S...just so I can "really" age myself...she made dresses for my sister and me from flour sacks and quilted at night by oil lamp on a frame hung from the ceiling ...shoot me now...LOL
