I would. If the roots stayed wet, chances are better that it will recover.

What can it hurt

I'd plant them in the late afternoon, when the sun is low in the horizon. Hopefully you'll get rain in the evening. ☺

I was thinking - what have you got to loose.

Thanks for your advice. I'll do it tomorrow, there's supposed to be rain again. Thy sure are sad looking.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Let us know how they do, Maureen. From what I remember of them, they are kinda sensitive.

Dear Maureen,
Jack in the pulpits are a type of wildflower called "spring ephemerals". Like others in this category, they grow and bloom in early spring and then the whole plant dies back to the ground for the rest of the growing season. This is so they can take advantage of the light coming into the woods when there are no leaves or very small leaves on the trees above in the spring. Put your JIP's in and they should root for you. You won't get top growth this summer, I don't think. and they do need some shade.

Thanks so much - and they need a lot of water, yes?
