Polish Spirit In Full Swing

Looking good! 'Rouge Cardinal' is on the other side of this trellis but is very small (planted last year) so PS is hiding it.

glad i am not the only one who appreciates the vigor and health of polish spirit. i always recommend it to those new to clematis so they can have the joy of seeing the coverage and blooms while they grow and build their collection.

Hi! I'm new to Dave's Garden but not entirely new to gardening.... I am however, not so familiar with Clematis. I, too, have Polish Spirit. It's about 4 years old and is doing magnificently well. It seems that whether it gets cut down to the ground or not by our Association's hack job landscaping company it continues to do really well in my (ahem) little garden.

I was wondering, under ideal conditions, what pruning group should this be in? Two years ago, it didn't get whacked down and it came back last year beautifully. Last fall it got whacked to the ground and this year it's still beautiful, albeit not as tall as it was two years ago.

Many thanks in advance!

Jen, Polish Spirit is a Group 3 and should be cut down to the first set of leaf nodes (about 18" off the ground usually) in early spring.

Meig, thanks so much for your reply! I'll remember to whack it back each year!
