This prairie plant's ID was finally solved. Had to wait until it bloomed. I'll watch for seeds if anyone is interested. It's about 5.5'H (including the tallest flower stalk) x 4' wide. The National Plant Database says it grows as far south as Virginia.
Napaea dioica (Glade Mallow)
pastime, would you mind sharing your images and a comment in PlantFiles? And maybe your ZIP code to start building a "map" of where it grows? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/112091/ - our entry is currently bereft of photos, and could definitely use more information and observations ;o)
Sure. I have compass plants, prairie dock, and Rattlesnake Master also.
Great! There are still a lot of plants that don't have many good photos, and even more that could use a good description. And every plant could use our ZIP code reports if it grows in our garden (or nearby ;o)
One of the joys and enrichments of my life is learning about the plants I find growing in the wild near my home. Making additions to Plantfiles is the icing on the cake!
I find the National Plants database very helpful.
