My trees are having a rough year.

I cut down a couple of pines and figure I was done cutting down big trees.

Last storm my wax mrytle decided to split into 4 pieces.

I liked that tree and it served a purpose.

This can't be a good sign.

Two wood peckers on one tree.

WOW, that is a shame about the Wax Myrtle. Do you think they severed too many roots when they dug that lagoon? It was close to the water's edge.

Whatever it is that brought the Pileated woodpeckers to your tree shouldn't matter. It is worth it just to see those magnificent birds.

Mrytle grew up post lagoon.

LOL I have about 37 million young ones if you need any more. I have a love/hate relationship with Wax Myrtle's. I love the shape of the mature trees and I love that they can be sheared into screening hedges. But, those young ones try my patience (along with the Yaupon Holly that pops up everywhere.)

Same thing happened to one of our large Was Myrtles on our back property line in the spring. Perhaps they are prone to this type of self-destruction?

Maybe the two Pileateds just like to hang out together. :)

Ok, send the Pileateds pair my way. I'd love to see those guys around here. All jokes asides, I'm sorry you've so many damages to your trees. Here too, after withstood many years of moderate droughts, we lost quite a few dogwoods which I really love around the garden.

Sounds awful but I do wish a couple of mine would split, I have way too many.
