Last year's yellow turned pink

Hi,
I bought a pretty bright yellow coneflower from Lowe's last Aug. or Sept. In the winter, I separated the plant in two and both halves seem to be doing fie BUT the first one to bloom produced a small pink Echinacea. Did they graft a yellow on the wild pink? I feel really cheated!

I personally think coneflowers would rather be pink/purple than anything. Maybe part of yours self-seeded and the seed reverted to pink? And that's the part you divided off? I never heard of "grafting" coneflowers!

Carrielamont, no, it was the original plant, I have buds on the "other side" now and am waiting to see if they also are pink. If the pink flowers get larger as I expect they will, I will be ok with that; I mainly was just trying to understand what happened.
