Are all those flood damaged furnishings going to THE DUMP?

As you may have heard, Iowa has been hard hit by weather this year, most recently severe flooding. The newspapers show heaps and piles of furnishings etc. stacked by the curbs waiting for the dump pickups. I can understand things like couches, stuffed chairs, paper, etc having to be discarded, but really, wooden kitchen chairs? Wicker chairs? end tables and chest of drawers? I know there are germs in flood water, but surely a little bleach would take care the hazard? Has anyone else been disturbed by this?
