mosaic plate-how to

i have done pots before using kitchen tiles and grout
today i broke a plate and put the peices on a terracotta saucer using tile adhesive
i have spaces around the edges and up the sides to fill in and might use globs, beads etc (any ideas ?)
when i grout the plate do i use the same grout i use on my tile work? the plate is thinner --and what should i seal with--thanks for any help
