The stem on this TB has just shriveled about 4 or 5 inches below the flower bud. Wondering if the sudden heat wave could be the problem. I don't see any signs of bugs.

As an amateur iris grower, I have had iris borers, crown rot, leaf spot and a few cases of mushy bloom stems. If the entire stem feels soft, it is probably a bacterial rot. I have had your exact problem but it was from a late frost after the bud began to swell before blooming. Mine have all bloomed & dried here is southern IL.
