CLOSED: Is this someone's pet?

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

I heard a strange bird chirp in my tree on Sat. and discovered this beauty! It flew off when I got close but came back yesterday for some nice pics. It let me get really close to it this time. I held my hand out and tried feeding it some bird food but when I got too close it scooted off a little. I heard it just now again and saw it zoom by up high.
Anyone know what it is and what it eats?

I think it's a Fischer's Lovebird... genus Agapornis, anyway.

Cool...could it be wild then? I still hear and see it racing around with the other birds. I'd love for it to come eat with all of mine. :)

If it were wild, it would be in Africa. It's probably someone's pet that escaped. There are populations of escaped parrots and related birds that exist and reproduce in the US, but I can't find any mention of that with this bird. You could try feeding it fruit and seeds or nuts... after that, who knows if it could survive in the "wild". Maybe someone is looking for it. Maybe you could ask around at any pet shops in the area. It is a beauty.

If the bird is banded (can't tell from pics) it is a legal pet and the owner should be looking for it. If so, I would call all local shelters to let them know the vacinity of the bird.
In Modesto, Ca. I saw McCaw in the neighborhood, told someome, they said the local rock station had put out an APB on the bird. I called the station with the birds location and the owners had the bird back in 4 hrs.

lol ...Claypa, you got me. I was thinking more along the lines of it being like these green parrots that live outside in neighboring cities here. I was worried about him living outside if he's an indoor bird but not sure how to catch a bird. lol I'll go talk to my neighbor who is an animal control officer and see if she has ideas.

I looked thru all the pics and this is the only one that I can see his legs and I do not see any band.
