Hybridizing and Growing Bearded Iris from Seed

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

For those of you you would like to hybridize, but are not quite sure how to get started, here's a link to some photos and written instructions to help you get started. It's loaded with the basics and is simple enough for anyone to understand, but I've included enough info to help you make the cross, keep records of your crosses, head off some common problems, plant the seeds, care for the seedlings, and witness your first bloom. I hope it is helpful.

Beware... it is very addictive.

That's the best instructional course I've ever seen. Thanks a gazillion.

Dan--a great pictorial course. Very like ours with exceptions for climate. Note for others with arthritis--we use a locking forcepts instead of tweezers, gives a greater hold on the anther, even then I have been known to drop the silly things. Words tell a great deal, but the pictures really show what to do.

grannymarsh and irisMA... Thanks for the compliments. I hope some of the info has been helpful.

irisMA... Thanks for mentioning the use of locking forceps instead of tweezers. That a very good point. I may have to try that myself.

Hope you ladies have a great weekend, Dan
