I photographed this one in Zuzu's garden and she didn't know the name. Anyone have any idea?
Thanks.

I don't know what that is, but it sure is gorgeous! Is the picture true to the real color? I love that deep purpley burgundy color. Beautiful!

Yes, here's one with flash but it was slightly blurred so I used the other one.

Well, I sure hope somebody can ID it, 'cause now I want one.

I checked the Chalk Hill website, 'Romantika' was one that looked close.

for id it is helpful to know when it bloomed, the size (inches across) of the bloom and wether it is herbaceous or climbing.
i think romantika has a smaller bloom than this one looks like. can you provide more details?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Well, it's blooming right now and is probably about 5-6".
I'll send Zuzu over here to add any other info she can.

I bought it from Merrygro in 2006, but they went out of business so there's no way of checking what it was on their Website, and their confirmation e-mails never listed the plants that were ordered. It could be Romantika. That sounds familiar. I know I ordered Rahvarinne from them, but it's slightly different, and I think it's growing on my back fence. I hope it isn't one they sent me by mistake instead of Patricia Ann Fretwell. I've ordered Patricia from three different nurseries and they've all sent me mislabeled plants instead.

I think this mystery is solved. I ran a search for "Romantika" in my d-mail and found a 2006 d-mail where I told JasperDale I had ordered Romantika from Merrygro. Case closed.

man I'm good! ^_^ LOL

i have never considered ordering romantika, but now i probably will. i always thought it was a much smaller flower. need to crack the books and bone up a bit!

Do you think this might be Romantika? It's a first time bloomer and is probably 4" across.

No, the petals are too wide and yours has a deep plum/burgundy coloring.
Maybe Beth Currie? Scroll down for larger images and to see it's different looks.

PrettyPeony..the very first blooms on a newly planted clematis will not always look like the blooms on a mature clematis vine..they can be smaller/off color etc...from what I can tell..it "kinda" reminds me of a juvenile Clematis "Gipsy Queen" bloom..but that is a guess ..would like you to post pics next year...Jeanne

I found a tag next to this clematis that says Jackminii (sp?). Do you think it is the right tag? It has two more blooms now and they are smaller and very deep maroon purple.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh yes, that would match, spelled Jackmanii, it's a very popular one.
