echinacea tennesseensis

Park Hill, OK(Zone 5b)

Has anyone else grown this type of echinacea? It seems to do an unusual thing I want confirmation of. The flowers all open and face to the east. They don't turn with the sun, they just face east. I have had them in a pot and have had them turn themselves around to keep their position. I am putting east and west facing pictures at the photo forum.

Mine do this too. I never paid attention to the fact that it's East... but now that I think about it ... I guess it is. It's a great plant - Don't ya think? Did you start yours from seed?

Park Hill, OK(Zone 5b)

Yes, and it is the easiest echinacea for me to start. Great germination.

are you speaking of the compass plant?

No, I grew that one too. Have been an herb collector that wanted it all, so I got that one from Richters. It is a roadside weed here.
Poppysue has this echinacea in the database. http://davesgarden.com/plants/go/193.html

The echinacea tennesseensis are just about the last seeds in the garden to ripen for me. It seems like they take forever. Mark - I'll gladly trade when they're ready.
