Here are a few pics. First is Scadoxus multiflorus (a tropical and not hardy around here - has to be grown in a pot and kept dormant during the winter).

TomH3787, Really Nice Photos! Those Reds and Blues really pop right out at ya!! Very Pretty!

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Red poofy ball thing...so scientific Trent, LOL! For the record, I like it too:-)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I had to post this on the Iris forum to get an ID. I have learned that is is a Japanese Iris which I do not remember planting but then I got to thinking and I believe it is one Downscale_Babe shared with me. It was a lovely surprise yesterday.

This is a large flower on a very young plant, you can't even see the leaves. If I was a good plant mommy I would have snipped the bud off so the strength could go into the plant.

Hibiscus rosa senensis 'Edna Bogaert'. Tropical

Tom, is that beautiful Scadoxus multiflorus the same thing as a Hamanthus multiflorus? The names of so many plants have changed and I can't keep up anymore.

That's crazy size for that small of a plant. I like the colors of that hibiscus.

BTW that's not a rose, it's a gardenia flower Iris.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Nice pics ardesia.

CoreHHI, Thanks for pointing that out to me, Sorry about that.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

ardesia - Scadoxus multiflorus is the new name for Haemanthus multiflorus ... so yes it's the same thing.

Here are a few more pics....

Butterfly weed... Asclepias tuberosa (very common but pretty and makes great food for monarch butterfly larvae).

Caesalpinia gilliesii - pic taken in the evening w/flash. Hot days fry the flowers so it's at its best in the evening or early morning.

Thunbergia battiscombei - just starting to bloom. In a few weeks it will have grown some more and have more flowers.

Tibouchina 'Athens Blue' ... not the greatest picture but it's the best I could do today. When it gets into the upper 90s the petals get fried. I sure hope the recent heat wave isn't an indicator of the weather pattern for the rest of the summer.

Happy Birthday Tom, serious thunbergia envy....
