Broken Stem, Will it Root?

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I just picked up a couple of Echinaceas today, and while I was planting one, a gust of wind knocked another one off my table. One of the main stems broke, so I removed it. Will it root? I dipped the end in rooting hormone, and potted it up. Should I have removed some of the leaves? The piece of stem is about 6" long. It looks a little droopy, now, about 5 hours later. Is there anything else I should do? It is sitting in my greenhouse, so it's protected.

From what I've heard - no. The rest of the plant should be fine.

I broke a couple off my sunrise a couple of days ago while I was pulling out some daisys that had taken over. Anyway, I put them in the birdbath and they were fine. Mom came over today and saw them in the birdbath and asked if she could have them and I said sure. So we'll see whet happens.

Mine didn't root, but the plant has sent up another stem that now has a bud on it.

Good luck with yours.

For me, no. I've tried more than once but no luck.
