... today and I'm wondering what crop I can follow the taters with. My scehdule says corn can still be sewn. Our first run of corn did poorly...second run(only two 200 ft. rows) are doing good. Can I follow taters w/ corn and if so,what variety for my hot and humid zone 8?

Diggin' Taters....
Here's a nice site for growing corn from Univ. of Arkansas in article, “Sweet Corn” -recommended varieties are on page 2:

We grow “Incredible” in PA and it is great – tender, juicy, sweet and 2 ears, sometimes 3 on each stalk. Does not like cold ground, so I guess it would be a good variety for your southern areas too. We get our seeds from Pinetree which has good prices and a pack of corn would probably plant 200 feet. You can plant it every 8" and germiniation is pretty much 100%.
