Not sure what kind he is and the picture is a little blurry.
Normally he just swoops down and grabs lunch right off the feeder. :(
This day I guess he wanted chipmonk instead of bird. He sat there about 15 min.

CLOSED: ID of Hawk please.
Red-tailed Hawk, immature (1 year old).
Resin
Thank you!
This one must be one of the 3 babies I watched last year. There is a nest in a pine tree that I can see from my back porch. Last year we watched mom teach the 3 babies to hunt off of the feeder. It was so fun to watch her as they frolicked around the woodsy area and she would screetch at them once in a while. Then they would all take off together until the next morning. That happened for about 2 weeks. After that we only saw 1 or 2 at a time.
Do you know if they would use the same nest again? I havent seen them up there this year.
chris
Buteo species (including R-t Hawk) usually make a new nest each year, unlike e.g. eagles or Osprey.

Thanks Resin. I hope the new nest is close by. It was great to be able to watch them last year.
