Howdy all,
My second bloomer is this NOID I've had for a while.
Thoughts?
ID Please
Could you give us a closeup of the beard on iris photo one?
Oooops
Jackie,
It will always be my favorite because it was my childhood favorite with that heavenly fragrance.
how tall does the one in your first picture get?
i am thinking "blue stacatto" but it gets to 40 inches
Could it be Going My Way
Tall:
This stem is currently 36".
Hmmm, Blue Staccato does not have that center purple vein on the falls. Going my way seems too plum.
I'm not sure. I'd have to see them side by side to know if it is exactly the same as mine. I've had mine over 20 years, don't know how long my friend had it before she shared with me. Originally came from White Flower Farm so am assuming mine was properly named as Going My Way. But with different soils and growing conditions, who knows, there are so many variable. Will be awhile before I can photograph any bloomers this year.
Whatever you call it, Call It Beautiful!
Well we have named it "Jeff" because it came from someone named Jeff!
It's a good bloomer. I've had terrible times with borers and this one really hangs in there. I thought I lost the other one (sweet iris) but it bloomed this year for the first time! I have a few more to open yet and ID. It's so fun!
I have this old one. I think it is Mme. Henri Cayeaux. It is very healthy and hardy. I'd like to get a rhizome of this from somenone and grow next to it to confirm.
what is PBF?
Mine does have purple in the base of the fans. It is also quite tall. probably 34"
pbf=purple based foliage
ah. PBF. Yes then. I'll take a pix tomorrow. I also thought at one point it could be "jerry" as shown from HIPS http://www.hips-roots.com/visitors/v-photos/vp-topframe.html. Don't know about the base foliage on it.
It was not usually noted in former times. Very handy trait when trying to untangle plants which have grown into each other; that is if both plants don't have it.
It's funny you should mention it because I just noticed the PBF this year. A few years ago, I dug up all my rhizomes that were just ravaged by borers. I treated them all and moved them to a new bed, but did not ID them. This year I have many blooming! Yay!
Do you have many Mme Henri Cayeaux? I'd like to get a known variety of that to grow along side. Perhaps we can trade a rhizome of each? Or I'd be glad to send you one of mine to grow along side yours… I'd just like to know for sure as there is lots of this iris on family property.
Thanks.
I'm afraid we don't grow that one. I was answering the foliage part. ID for older iris is fun, but tough.
Ah, I see. It was "mainer." Duh. I have to start reading more carefully.
Mrs. Ed I could spare a rhizome after bloom time. Would not mind the noid in trade. Mine does come from HIPS so is confirmed. So far sounds promising that your noid is MME. Henri Cayeaux.
