The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I have 3 pics of this bird that was bathing in a low water crossing along with a Red-winged Blackbird.

how big was it - in comparison to the redwing?

It was smaller than the Redwing. I should have gotten a pic with the two together....duh!!

Probably Rusty Blackbird. They have yellow eyes, though. Maybe just not visible in the photo?

Hi claypa...I thought it looked like a female Rusty Blackbird in my Stokes book. Here is a different pic with a better view of the eye. Thanks again.

Or a female Brewer's blackbird? I give up... someone will know!

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Looks most like a young Starling to me. Note the short tail (shorter than any of the American blackbirds), and fairly upright body carriage (American blackbirds tend to have their tails cocked up while feeding). It is however rather darker than young Starlings usually are (particularly on the throat), so I'm a bit baffled.

Thanks Resin and claypa again for trying. Wish I could have gotten closer...I've never seen a young Starling so that could be it.
