Please ID this Iris ...?

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

or another one very similar?!

This is an iris from Monet's garden in France and I would like to find one similar for a garden project I'm working on....

Any ideas?

Or maybe I should place my question on the ID forum?

Thanks. t.

Hi, T
There are several similar, but one name comes to mind. It is Autumn Tryst. It is listed as a rebloomer, but mine hasn't so far.

I love MONET! Good Luck!

I think I found it ... AUTUMN CIRCUS

If it was truly from Monet's garden, it ought to be an old French Iris, like Mme. Chereau. One way or the other it will be lovely in project. If you are only looking for something similar the others will do. Next closest is Autumn Circus.

South Hamilton, MA

Too modern for Mde chereau--Autumn Circus more likely--gardens do replace alder plants at times.

Anyone know of a similar iris in this Monet painting?

Autumn Circus is very very close. I looked on Iris Sisters website before and totally missed it. Thanks for the link.

Madame Chereau looks pretty close. Select Seeds has it for sale, along with a few other historics.

I love the shape of these iris.

The iris in the painting looks to me like a japanese iris...no? That one could be tough to ID!

Thanks for all the help!

The painting looks like iris virginica:

Autumn Circus is darker blue than your photo

Madame Chereau has long narrow falls
this is a iris with stiff petticoat falls

it is at least after 1970.

i posted picture of it some where in iris forum about 3 years ago, when it rebloomed in fall

Thanks, Tazzy. Sounds like you had quite a time with your move. I hope you are settled in and more comfortable now, even if you iris pics aren't at hand. I'll find a pic somewhere, and I can look up Circus Circus easily in a catalogue.

Hope all is going well for you now. t.

At first glance I thought it was either ART DECO or (allowing for a slight color adjustments due to camera hues) AUTUMN CIRCUS. I use to grow both.

ART DECO, however has a darker blue beard, http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/30704/
where as AUTUMN CIRCUS has a much lighter beard..... http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/16575/ ........ just as your iris does. It wouldn't be CIRCUS CIRCUS because that variety does not have the plicata edges in the standards. I am personally convinced it is AUTUMN CIRCUS. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/53041/
