Both Blue Doll and Caution from Laurie have started my bloom season. You can see the size difference between the MDB Blue Doll and the SDB Caution Sign easily here.
My irises have started
Caution Sign has always been my first bearded iris to open the bloom season ... until last year when Golden Violet beat it out by a day or two. Blue Doll might beat them both, but I've always had it planted in a different bed that is shadier and a week later than the other beds. Last summer I planted a large division of Blue Doll in a sunny bed, so perhaps bloom order will change a bit this year.
Anyhow, it's wonderful to see them blooming for you right now.
Laurie
I'm glad you are putting the plaque to good use. I love painting them too! I hope you enjoy it, Julianna.
Thank you very much for sharing your Snowtree last fall. It is blooming for me right now, and it is just so different from anything else that I grow. I love it. It's great to see your pictures from Zone 3 too. Aren't these little ones wonderful?
Your Cherry Child opened it's first bloom today. What a nice, rich color it is.
Linda
Hi Linda,
Snowtree came from Laurie too. Was happy to share what I could. Cherry Child came from the Maine Iris Society Show sale back in 2006. Your's is the maiden bloom. It was Bonnie, or hooked that recommended that I try it so mine never have bloomed before. Mine will bloom in a day or two so it is wonderful to see what it will look like.
Tomorrow looks like Red Heart, Smell The Roses and Yearling will bloom but being Mother's Day and my birthday will be celebrated early this year, I might not get to take pics. Medically speaking I have not been allowed to dig or do stuff in the garden this week or to ride in a car over bumpy roads so I can heal enough go to the restaurant and have a Mother's Day, birthday party. Nothing serious, just impatient to be up and about again. I have snuck out though to take a pic or two these past two days.
I was brown nosing from the start I guess, born on Mother's Day. Being the oldest, long ago I told Mom I could never improve upon the first gift she got so we double celebrate. Won't actually fall on Mother's Day though except every eleven years.
Grin. Happy Mother's Day to all of you out there.
'Snow Tree' was hybridized in MA by Bob Sobek who just does daylilies now. It is so individual that there is no problem with an ID.
Red Heart is a really pretty one.
Mainer you have lots of pretty ones! The garden plaque is cute too.
I saw one little sign that said: Weed and Reap
Teresa
I keep saying I am going to paint some new garden signs, so far I am only collecting the little sayings. Just not enough hours in the day!
Beauties all, Mainer. You have a nice patch of SDBs.
Say, would that be Turkish Topaz, the Arilbred? If so, congratulations on getting one to bloom in Maine.
Yes it is and I have more arilbreds ready to bloom soon. Loudmouth, CodeTalker, Honey Not Tonight, Sheik, Prince Thou Art, Syrian Jewel and possibly some more but those have already sent up blooms stalks. Turkish Topaz is the very first for me to bloom of this type ever so I am waiting impatiently for it to open. Grin.
We have lost some ABs this yr. including Zwanenburg which is ugly but tougher than it parentage shows. AB seedling returned from "vacation" in Co is in bloom. We had lost it here.
Love that picture of the unfolding of Turkish Topaz! Truly a baroque iris with all those swirls.
Just beautiful ,
eons ago
