There are various ways to root rhodies, depending on your resourses. There is an exelant explanation from Don Hyatt. One way to do this is in a baggie, with a mix of peat 40%, and sand 60%.Take cuttings about 3" , and drop them in one part clorox, and 5 parts h2o, let them stay in the water/clorox long enough to keep down pest, and blight.Take the cutting, and clip the three leaves about half into, so it can transpire easier.Keep in a shaded area, and check the moisture reguraly.Should do the trick, and you will be pleased.I have been looking for cuttings, but am limited as to people I know with rhodies.Mike

i have a bunch of rhodies. i have never even thought of propagating them. do you put the whole cutting in the clorox mix or just the stem? how long do you leave in? then you cut the leaves in half? (making them smaller yes?)

HI Shokami2,
those are all of the questions that I was going to ask too. I will wait to see the answers. Shokami, you should have your basket either tomorrow or monday. If you want to do a bigger and better basket let me know. This was so you didn't have to send more cuttings.

I did overlook the soaking in clorax water, its 5 minuets. You make the cuttingvery small, no more than 3", and cut across the leaf about half into.Take a small clip from each side of the stem about a half inch long, then dip it into a rooting hormone, and place it in 40% peat 60%sand mix(damp), and close it up to get light, but not direct light.
If you can find Don Hyatt on propagating rhodies, and he can direct you through it easy.
If any one has rhodie cuttings, D-mail me. Thanks, Mike

Thanks for the tips that lead me to these. I am currently on vacation in Oregon & Washington and just tripping over my tongue as I drool over all the beauties they have here. This is a planting on the sidewalk in a shopping district in Eugene, OR
(I think they object to "pruning" city plants, but I sure was tempted)

I'm sure that plant could have a much more perfect shape if you just made a few snips here and there--you'd be doing them a favor and they ought to thank you! LOL
