May Clematis

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

This is Durandii. It's very slow to take off and it doesn't cover itself with flowers but the blooms are so lovely. It's impossible to get the true blue that the flowers on with the camera.

Doss..what a beauty...I don't have that one yet..LOL..But LOVE the leaves on her..So big and dark green...thanks for letting us know she is slower to get established..How long have you had it growing in your gardens..and you do hard prune her ..right?...Jeanne

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

She's been here at least 7 years. I do hard prune her every year and this is by far the best she's been. She's definitely been a 'creeper' for more years than I expected but worth the wait. Durandii is herbacious so I wind the stems into the structure.

They're both beautiful. Wouldn't the pink and blue be spectacular together?

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

doss: I love "Durandii"! Such a beautiful bluish/purple color.

BeaHive: What a lovely montana Clematis! This one grows a little bit shorter (20-25ft) compared to the other montanas. Perfect for smaller gardens.
