This year I purchased 3 packages of dutch irises that I had never seen before. Can someone tell me if this picture on the package is a true color. They are blooming now and all are BLUE, not red. I am wondering if someone just package with the wrong picture or is there a deep red as the picture indicates.
True Color of a Dutch Iris
I can make out Queen as part of the name...what is the other word?
Can't read it.
As far as I know there is no dutch iris that color. Sometimes color reproduces the wrong shade & being photographers, not gardeners no attention is paid to it. Wayside gardens has a picture of siberian iris 'Jamacian Velvet' which looks red when it is really red violet. There are new Dutch cultivars in new colors coming out, but you can imagine if a true red anything came out it would be all over the iris world. It may be a darker blue violet without showing up its true color in the photo.
Sadly, boxed iris are very likely to be mislabeled or it could just be a problem with the color. I'd be amazed if there really was one that was so red. Photos on boxes in general make the plant seem 'more' than it really is.
