Scheduled for introduction next week, the new patch will apparently not prevent the withdrawal of XP availability for new installations after June 30th. XP speed should remain faster than Vista after the new patch is added.

A cousin of mine, an instructor for New Horizons, reports that Microsoft is working on a system beyond Vista, tentatively called Windows 7, and is planning to move up the introductory date (not before it's really ready, we hope!) Yuska
