What's wrong with my Venosa Violacea?

Houma, LA

This is my second year with this clematis. The first year it was small but put out 1 bloom for the whole season. This year it is blooming but the petals show no interest in uncurling. I do like the way it looks but is something wrong with it?

just looks like weather damage to the earliest flowers. happens in colder climates for sure. when the plant is in destress the unformed flowers are damaged. or extrmene weather at a certain stage of development. subsequent flowers should be fine.

I like it better than the way it's supposed to look. It's unique!

Thanks for the information. I do like the way the blooms look but I know that it's not the way they are supposed to look.

The prize goes to niobe. The first few buds must have been damaged. I got 4 new blooms and they are all healthy and look they way they are supposed to.

Thx

We have spider daylilies -- I suppose we could have a spider clematis!
