Is this an iris?

Anyone know if this is an iris? I've search the web and looked through all the images on hip-roots.com but can't find a match. More photos posted here: http://flickr.com/photos/5adie/sets/72157604629766830/

Yes, that's an iris, but I'm not sure what kind. One of the beardless types, perhaps Louisiana or virginica.

Is it a wild one, or did you purchase it?

It looks to me like a Lousiana, maybe iris brevicaulis. Are the stems of the flower short, sturdy and kind of zig zag?

Here's a good place to try to identify beardless.

Please note, iris brevacaulis has many different forms.

They are growing in a small courtyard at work so I'm assuming someone planted them.

Yes, the flower steps are short and zig-zag. Fits the description of the iris brevacaulis.

I pulled up a tuber that was starting to grow over the sidewalk to plant at home :o)
