droopy gerberas

Mableton, GA(Zone 7a)

I foolishly just spent more money on ANNUAL plants than I've ever spent on perennials! It was cold and rainy and I was at HD and these were staring me down. They are special gerberas supposedly grown specifically for HD to sell. They are fabulous. But, now the flowers are all drooping and not bouncing back. They had to go in the garage for the past few days due to our last frost of the season. Anyway, can anyone give me tips. I just can't lose these. They are beautiful, plus my gerberas always come back, so it's not really an annual for me.

This is how they looked after I took them out of the garage, watered them and they spent the day in part sun. Everything they should like. But the flowers drooped and wouldn't bounce back. The leaves look fine. I cut all the flowers off and put them in a vase.

I think that they just went thru a shock from the cold and the shade from being in the garage. The foliage looks fine, so I think that you may or may not loose these blooms (i.e the stems may not straighten up-gerbera stems can be kind of funky sometimes), but you will get more.

Thanks. You are probably right. I went ahead and cut these blooms off and have them in a vase. They did droop within 30 minutes of me bringing them out. I do think they were kinda shocked.
Thanks again!

3gardeners, I have been growing gerberas for around ten years, and mulch heavy with pine straw, that I ran through the screader. This is the third year for my first gebera from seed.First year to flower, and I am excited, but started the seed three years ago.Out weather shouldn't be that different, and if you will clip them to the ground, and put the folage on top of the plant, then cover it up with the screaded pinestraw.Works for me.Mike
