looking for a large flowered ruffled antique gold or brass colored tall bearded........it looked like dirty brass...very unusual ..I saw a clump in a yard but have not been able to reach the people to get any info on it..willing to trade, barter or buy .....been back by the home several times, and their big dogs are protecting the iris.....it's probably a good thing.......would like pictures or info if you can help....

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

How about Golden Panther?

I enjoyed that link and Golden Panther is lovely, but not quite what I saw...The one in question is much more golden brown as in old brass....I may see if I can drive up close enough to get a picture tomorrow

Bring the doggies a treat.

Hey put a picture on if you can I think between the iris societys here I may have seen one like you are describing and I'll see if I can find it while they are all blooming here. I still have your list and have been scouting yards for them. LOL Susan

jackie,
I'm almost 100% sure I have that one.
I'll see if I have any pictures of it saved. If not... they will be blooming soon and I can get you some pictures taken then and you know I will be more than happy to send you as many as you want.

Too bad we can't search plant files by color!

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

Oooo Jane thank you........You might have saved my soul....I had stong desires to steal this one if they won't share with me........;>)

Raleigh, NC

iris knapping is not allowed, unless you don't think you'll get caught - LOL

but it's usually more fun if you know their names- some of the names alone are a hoot!

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

Why not knock on the door and ask the owner for information like the name of the iris, for an even closer photo and if the owner is nice, a piece of the plant? Most people would be delighted that you noticed and proud that you admired their taste.

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

Jackie,
I will take picture's of all and any that I have that even remotely resemble this one, once they bloom.
Of course I'll send you any that you want, but you know Jackie, I think I would still try to catch the owner at home and I bet if she's like most of us iris lovers she would be more than happy to give you a few...make sure you get me one too LOL just incase it isn't the one I have!

your photo looks like a redbrown plicata with a golden ground

I am laughing with my friend from NM, apparently you have never visted rural Oklahoma ...I took the pictures with the digital on zoom from wayyyyyyy out in the roadway.....A barbed wire fenced area with several large dogs ( theft is out of the question) and a typical redneck junkyard look...no yard at all just broken down vehicle parking, the only plant you see is this magnificent stand of iris...I am trying to find the owner's name (asking around) so I can call

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

The dogs would likely not let you out of the car.

Okay, now I get your hesitation. I thought it was just shyness on your part. But apparently it is just self preservation!

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Oh now I know why no one stops at my house,LOL. I have the same type set up, but I guess I'm more modern, I have sheep wire for the house pasture fence and most of the vehicles that are sitting around do run, just don't look like it, and I have 7 dogs. But I do have a nice fenced yard with chain link that the dogs aren't allowed in you just would have to get threw them to get there. I'd try leaving a note on the gate to get in, I'm sure some one would find it we do. Susan

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

Well Susan I know you have great iris and a great love for them... you have helped me a great deal getting my collection started..........and now I know they are well protected...gate? You jest!! just dogs, no gate needed......I've always had a fear of dogs I am not familar with. .Bitten by a tiny but evil butcher chiuaua as a child, I never quite outgrew my fear.....LOL..love u all...

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Jackie you summed up
the rural Oklahoma. eye sores very well .
It wonder the clump isn't growing out of old divan or hood of car
the dogs are most often pit bulls and the aroma of cooking crank emits from said rustic abode
LOL

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

goodness, that's a pretty one.

If you ever find out, I want to find one too.

Susan

I saw one tonight at the iris meeting that I think looks just like it, but Pegi called it gold dust, we are having our iris show on the 3rd of May and if she enteries one I'll take a picture of it and I know when she digs I'll get you a start. We have a lot of places like that around here too, but not much of the drugs they are usually in town. susan

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

Tazzy.....you been here? The clump was grown up through a lawn mower, don't know why they ever had one.....no grass I could see, just dog runs

I retired here three years ago from the Dallas area and I live in a small town called Thackerville..5 churches, 1 school for all, 1 mom and pop store, and a roach cafe ...1 sg mile city limit and 500 or less in the area....crank cooking has slowed a bit now that people can get work in the casinos. My home is due east about 2 miles from Winstar Casino which when complete by the predicted end of summer will be the largest in Okla

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

No HAVE NOT BEEN IN YOUR AREA IN LIKE 30 YEARS but in smaller towns in my area ,
lets say 60 miles either way of Tulsa you find a lot of this kind of rural junk yard , crank houses
.there still a lot of woods and off the beaten path so they attract bad things, there is a strong odor with the cooking process
so in town they get caught.it is a lot better here since they took the ingredients off the store counters ( cold medicine ).
We use to love to take a contry road we never been on and explore it got kina sarey ,so we stick to little more populate areas for our Sunday drives .

Raleigh, NC

don't know anything about crank....

LOL but in rural NC, home of nascar wannabes, you best stick to the main roads, because you REALLY don't want to come upon a moonshine still and be mistaken for revenuers in your city clothes...

Texas/Okla central b, United States(Zone 7b)

dont wanna travel county roads in west virginia either....Guess it's the same all over....

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Hey that sounds like around here but we have marajonia fields along the river. Susan

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

No place like home
,like they say In Oklahoma
you know your a redneck when you and your dog pee on same tree LOL
you can see from my photo ia m very prim dignified LOL
