They have started a Plant a Row for Hunger program in the Kansas City area with the community hunger food bank called Harvesters. The drop off sites are all garden centers. I think it's a great idea. See the information below to see if there is a group in your area or to start one yourself.

Make a Difference -- Make a Donation
Produce Donations
Nutritious fruits and vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet and are in great demand at most community food banks and soup kitchens. If you are interested in donating fresh produce or herbs to a local emergency food assistance organization, please contact Carol Ledbetter, Plant a Row for the Hungry Program Administrator, at PAR@gwaa.org or 877.492.2727 (toll-free). We will provide the name of a local volunteer Plant A Row Committee near you that organizes garden produce donations with local food banks. If there is no local volunteer committee in your immediate area, we invite you to visit “Start a Campaign” on this website for information about starting a Plant A Row campaign in your neighborhood.
Also for your convenience, the GWA Foundation is assembling a list of donation sites for various local Plant A Row committees. Please click here for a current list of local volunteer committee contacts and donation locations. Click Here
Sponsorship and In-Kind Support
Currently in its ninth year, Plant A Row has more than 600 local programs and a rapidly expanding network of volunteer committees that need support and coordination to keep their community service growing. Funding is currently needed to provide educational materials, garden markers, produce pledge cards, training manuals, a toll-free telephone help line and other services to help direct committee volunteers and the public. Volunteer training and support is essential to help ensure community volunteers are well equipped to work with donors, food banks, service organizations and the hungry population in a sustainable effort to reduce hunger in their local communities.
Plant a Row for the Hungry needs your help to keep things growing! As a non-profit program, Plant A Row depends on the generous support of individuals, groups, businesses and foundations to continue its mission to serve our nation’s most vulnerable.
Financial gifts of all sizes are greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged with a receipt. To make a donation using a credit card, please call 877.492.2727. If you are interested in making a charitable, tax-deductible gift, please mail your check to:
