Growing clove current

I have one of these plants in my yard, and recently requested trades for more to plant along side a fence. Some one, (thankyou ) for the link sent me a link with some disturbing info on it about growing these plants.

I haven't ever seen these diseases on my small plant, but wondered if I have to look out for this. as this is the variety that I grow.

Anthracnose and leaf spots are potential problems. In some parts of the country, the planting of Ribes species is illegal, due to the fact some species are alternate hosts for white pine blister rust. Check with local authorities before planting. Ribes odoratum is a host of this disease.

Sorry I do not know anything about this but might I ask where in the world you got this? I couple of weeks ago I posted a request for a cutting of any type of clove tree or shrub and no one had one to give up. I live in Indianapolis and can not find any around.

They seem hard to come by, a local master gardener gave me mine, said they put out runners like crazy. The smell is wonderful.

I have 3 babies on mine and it's quite small. I want to line one ofmy fences with them.

I saw in the plant files that two vendors had one for sale. I think one is forestfarm they had them for l0.00

Herby--Clove and clove current are not the same plant, not even related. Clove is Syzygium aromaticum, clove currant is Ribes odoratum.

Oh...just shows you how ignorant I am about plants...lol. I do not see how all you people can keep all these plants straight, I really need to start buying some books... Thanks, by the way.

Common names can be really confusing, I like the Latin ones better because then you know exactly what plant you're talking about. I just figured if you were looking for real clove you might be disappointed with the clove currant! Plant Scout shows that Top Tropicals carries the Syzygium, looks like it's backordered right now but I'm sure they'll get it back in stock at some point.

I thought the clove current was the non fruiting current, and all the fruiting currents were called black current, red current. etc... it's how I keep from confusing myself on the currents. The clove current is the non fruiting one.

someone else told me that the fruiting currents have wonderful scents too. Makes sense to have the fragrance and the fruit LOL

Clove currants do fruit.

Does your plant have flowers that arise individually, each with their own flower stem directly attached the woody stem(1)? Or are individual flowers attached to a stem that is attached to the woody stem(2)?

Clove currants have #2 configuration.

The one I have doens't fruit, or the guy that gave it to me said it doesn't fruit. I'll see later on. Maybe it fruits but not edible

It definitely can bear fruit, and I've seen several sites that say it's edible. Here are a few examples (I specifically looked for ones that mentioned human consumption--there are some other species of currant that have fruits that are technically edible but don't taste good to us, but this one appears to be one that people enjoy):
