Should be pay towards neighbors fence

Our neighbor has a wooden privacy fence that is at least 25 years old. When we moved in it was already there. we live in a twin so the fence serves as a privacy barrier when we are on our back patios. The fence was put up the wrong way as the bad side is facing our yard but we did not care and the people that lived there were nice at the time so we could care less. Anyway another person moved in and he has some summer parties in his back yard and it is great to have as a privacy screening. We get along fine with him also and his daughter plays with ours when she is at her dads. We had a very bad wind storm and it picked up our trampoline and threw it onto his fence which broke some 3 posts and a few of the slats maybe (4) to the fence. We tried putting it under our homeowners but they said it was a act of god and not something we did on purpose so they told us he needed to put in a claim under his homeowners. He was not happy as he has a $500 deductable also. He did also get roof damage so he put both under one claim. His homeowners sent him a check for the fence and roof $3500. The roof is coming to $4000 so he told us he is not sure he will replace the fence maybe repair it not sure what he wants to do with it not in a big rush as the roof is more important to him now. We told him we have a cousin that does fencing and he has the same kind but new laying in the yard that someone ordered but changed their mind on a he could give that to him for $800 that includes putting it in. He said he would think about it. Have a feeling he is putting the whole amount towards his new roof instead. We know we can not put a new one up as this is his fence and we have a dog so we would like it fixed as we have some boards leaning up where the slats broke off the fence. It looks ugly to us but he is not as concerned about it. Should we offer any funds towards replacing it or not as his homeowners already figured that into his check. I hate looking at this old fence!!
