Dental crowns/caps

Hiya ..

Just curious .. I need input .. DH (a retired firefighter) is being told he needs a crown on a back tooth. Cost $2000.00 !! NOT covered by our insurance as it's considered 'cosmetic'.The tooth is not bothering him .. the crown would be for protection.

So .. anyone walked this road before ??
