Dante's Inferno and Ann Chowning

Supply, NC

Hello;
I am looking for an online source for purchasing 'Dante's Inferno' and 'Ann Chowning'. Does anyone know of any supplier who sells online AND actually has 'Dante's Inferno' and/or 'Ann Chowning'in stock?
At present I do not have access to a printer so I can't print an order form.
Thanks.

"Ann Chowning" is listed at Lousiana Farms LLC I don't know anything about the reliabilty of the company.

I sympathize with the search for LA iris Ann Chowning. I bought one at Lowes and it turned out to be Iris Pseudacoris. I recently bought another at a nursery in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The owner said he would return my money if it wasn't Ann Chowning.
I think Louisiana Farms LLC only sells in quantity -- check the fine print and see. I googled Ann Chowning and found this nursery has it:

I suggest you check them both out in Garden Watchdog before ordering though.

The first link has a message that they are closed due to aging parent responsibilities. Hope all goes well for them.

Oops. I hope things go well for them, too. If you google "iris Ann Chowning", you will find lots of nurseries which sell it including Schreiners but if you go to about the 3rd or 4th page of google hits you will find lots of pond plant nurseries that sell Ann Chowning. I would go with one mentioned favorably in Garden Watchdog. Schreiners' is always good, but they can be pricey.

pajaritomt--hope you didn't think I meant the first link in your post =) it was in the response just before yours. Sorry, if I muddled that up.

Schreiner's is a bigger financial commitment than I usually want try--I am tempted by their late season or early season sales though:) Haven't given in yet:LOL:

The Society for Louisiana Iris has a website that lists a lot of sources.

I bought Dante's Inferno from Spring Hill (my very last purchase from them ever, I swear) a couple of years ago. It was a pathetic little scrap that didn't get here until November, but I have been babying it until it is now a nice clump. I am hoping it will bloom this year so I can see if it is really Dante's Inferno. If it is, I would be happy to share a piece with you, even if you have nothing to trade. But if you DO have a Great Lakes or Bryce Canyon, I would be ecstatic to have a piece.

PS Thursday, April 17 - I just noticed that Ann Chowning was posted as "Available for Trade" on Feb 15 this year by "adavisus."

My Friend Dick is a darker red than Ann Chowning not as bright, but just saw it at the AIS convention and it is a WOW!

that must be new - I've not heard of it - who hybrized? I adore the reds~

Hybridizer is M.D. Faith. It was winner of the top award for LA in 2007.

that's why I don't know it - don't have any good place for LAs

I, too, love the red Louisianas and have discovered they can be grown almost anywhere -- I even found some people online who are growing them in Idaho -- outdoors for the winter. I have a Black Gamecock that wintered over here in New Mexico. I am so excited that it survived winter here. I plan to add a Red Velvet Elvis and Peaches in Wine. I have Ann Chowning at my farm, but had to leave before it bloomed.
IrisMA is right, the Louisianas at the Convention were special. Here are the plant files pictures of it. I seem not to have photographed it when I was at the convention.

OK you convinced me _ I'm getting two LAs to try here. Maybe our drought is over enough....

In Atlanta I saw where the black pond liner was used to hold water, creating a bog for a LA planting.

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

Mine is in the ground. I pour my coffee grounds on it and a few other acid loving plants that I have. The people in Idaho plant theirs in a bucket, wide, but not to deep. Apparently they like a lot of water but don't really need a bog.
One of the things I attended at the Convention was a lecture with wonderful pictures of the restoration of City Park in New Orleans. As part of saving the soil along the banks of the bayous there, they planted them with thousands of Louisiana irises -- not in the water but on the bank. The pictures a year later were stunning. Patrick O'Conner of Zydeco Iris plants his in kiddie pools! I think I will go for something a little more adult, though -- perhaps a large pot.
Check out the website for the Idaho grower:

Be sure to check out their LA Irises, particularly Red Velvet Elvis and Peaches in Wine. Those are must haves for me. By the way, this man does not sell iris, but it isn't hard to find those cultivars for sale on line.
