I see grass!

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

I looked between the piles of snow in the yard and lo and behold, there are patches of grass. It's brown and covered with dog poo, but it's GRASS! I even noticed some hiasynths trying to break through the ice. Oh thank God. There is HOPE!

LOL,
I looked today and saw some little paper whites poking up. We are suppose to get dumped on with snow later today, maybe they will just hide their heads back in the ground.
I see nothing else coming up, just some brown grass in spots.

Spring wants to rear her muddy head, but old man winter keeps slapping her.

I've got grass too!! Yahoo!! I still have patches of snow and big puddles but lots of grass around the house. I got all the dog poo picked up. Now for the bunny poo. :)

most of the snow is going here cept where ti was drifted and is shady!!!

I have bulbs up :)

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

That is great. I found a couple of something growing, but looks like it froze.
Most of the snow is gone in the yard. Some still between house and road and of course the piles from plowing, sliding off the metal garage roof and that.
The last 4 years on this date I saw turtles sunning themselves (and last year was 70') The log that the turtles like is still frozen in and surrounded by a bunch of ice and snow. So unless the guys are going to crawl up on the snow I doubt I will be seeing turtles any time soon. At least the log is showing. It was under snow for the last 3 months.

Wouldn't you know it when the baby comes over to visit she heads right for the one pile of snow on the edge of the yard to sit and play in. :)

I put Milorganite down in my flower bed yesterday. Hopefully, it will deter the deer and rabbits from chewing on my tulips coming up. The daffs are up too and the grape hyacynths. I plan to spray some Liquid Fence around today and walk out and check on my newer fruit trees. I'm so glad we got all the apple trees pruned heavily and sprayed with dormant oil. This will be the year they don't produce as much. It seems to be an every other year thing. I sprayed the grapes too. Last year I even covered them with netting and some varmit still managed to get in there and eat almost all of them. Any suggestions from anybody? I'd love to have some grapes one of these years. ha ha ha At least the raspberries and blueberries are inside the 8 foot fencing so nobody will get them unless it's birds.

I'm going to pot up my phlox I got the other day in the mail. I wish I could just plunk them in the dirt. Anybody doing that or is it too cold to do that? They are a perennial right? I guess I'll just throw them in some coffee cups and stick them inside that cheapo greenhouse I bought at Walmart till next month. They're sprouting already so i have to do something with them. It will be nice to be outside. The sun is shining. I think we're supposed to get some rain in here. THe fields are not flooded as usual. I think because the snow melted slowly and refroze at night. Glad for that. Hope it stays that way. I don't want my pond overflowing and my fish swimming away into the ditch or worse having the pike swim in from the ditch and eating all my perch.

Have a great day everyone.

Loon if your phlox are as big as mine are you are going to need something bigger then a coffee cup even 5 inch pots are to small and that was all I had will be potting up to bigger pots soon LOL

I wound up potting them up in 20 ounce plastic cups. They'll be OK. It's not like they have to live in there forever. I figure we should be able to plant them out within the next 4-6 weeks. I put them all in trays and put the trays in that cheapie greenhosue I bought at Walmart. It has a zip around plastic cover over it. They're out in the garage in that greenhouse in front of a window. Every single root I took out had sprouted already. All of them looked great. I gave them a little drink and they'll be fine out there. During the day I'll open the garage door so they can get some real sunlight and at night I'll roll them back into the garage. When I plant them in the ground I'll spread the roots out better. I think I bought 50 of them. I got mostly pink and white but did get one package of blue. The funny thing on those blue ones was they were sprouting at the end of some of the roots. I thought that strange. The other colors were sprouting at the crown. I guess the blue ones must spread ??

It is supposed to be 53 tomorrow with rain. That ought to wake everybody up. ha ha ha

Awwwwww..........cute littel snowdrops. I must try to remember to get some of those for next year. It is such a sweet welcome to spring isn't it? I thought my Lenten Rose would be blooming by now but it's not. Just leaves so far.

These are a first for me, I was cleaning up the front flowerbed this fall, shortly after moving in. I was digging and raking and dislodged some tiny little bulbs. I had no idea what they were, so I just plopped them back into the soil. Now that I know, I will try to round them up-I have several random sprigs growing here and there.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

oh i luv them!!! My snow just melted off where mine are growing and i can see some growing! Not as far a long as yours! I also got a bunch more to add when the garden allows me back in!!! Got them in plant trade forum for postage!!! potted up 4 big pots full :)
