Last fall I thought I was going to have to give up my dream and I sold and gave away my irises and daylilies since we thought we were going to have to sell our farm. I’m very happy things worked out though and we didn’t have to sell it after all. Between the money from my flowers and my husband working a second job, we pulled ourselves out of the hole we were in.
Anyway, not much of my beautiful collection is left – I went from having over 800 iris cultivars to around 100 scraggly survivors. My best new cultivars and all the bubbly, vibrant and dramatic ones I loved so much went quickly last fall when I offered up everything I had for super cheap prices so that all of them would find new homes.
I am very eager to get back into hybridizing again. If you have some nice irises or daylilies you can share with me in return for postage or for very low pricing, I’ll be more than grateful to you.
I’m hoping for some seedling beauties, recent introductions and other nice cultivars that have good characteristics and parent potential. I love anything bubbly, wavy, with ruffles or lace, and I’m awed by dramatic, vivid, dark and vibrant colors.
In the future I plan to share my best seedlings and new introductions with contributors when I’m able to return the favor.
Please send whenever it’s best for you. I’m ready to plant anytime.
Thanks,
Cathy’s Plants

I have some antique ones I can share with you the ladies in the iris club think they are in the time from of 1919 to 1930's and this july when the iris club digs for their sale if you don't mind small to tiny rhyzomes I can send you some more then. I take all the unwanted ones because the ladies just throw them away. I can take bags to make sure that I get the names with them, Let me know Thanks Susan
Susan-I am going to have to come to NM then!! LOL If they are just throwing them away, when a lot of us would give our left arm for them-shame, shame!!LOL
To these ladies when they dig if they aren't at least 4 inches long or longer they don't want to keep them, it takes them to long to grow, but some of my best ones are from the little tiny ones that look like a seed with a little green on them, Last year they just dug one place and I gave away a bunch I just cant let them die so I take the unwanted ones even the old first root and if it has new eyes on it I either give it away or plant it here. So if you would like some I'll see what I can do And 99% of them are named iris. I have the old iris that we are still trying to find someone that can name them. Here's a picture my daughter took about 9 oclock at night so I could send it to a lady and see if she could tell us what it is. Susan
WOWSERS SUSAN-any that cathy doesn't take, send my way!! Those ladies will be my new best friends!!LOL I am trying to get into the Iris Society here-they have several iris sales throughout the summer that are open to the public and I am going to go to a meeting and see if it is for me...
I enjoy the club here, I've met some really nice people and learned a lot, we have such bad soil and water it was nice to find something that was green and then they flowered, so I'm hooked. I'll post when I have some to get rid of and let everyone know. Thanks Susan
Thanks SUsan-I am just witing for the info they are mailing me w/ meeting dates & times and so on and the events and some general info so I can try it!! I lived in AZ for a while so I know what ya mean about the "we have such bad soil and water it was nice to find something that was green and then they flowered"!!
You should find your local Iris society very useful. They are well up on how to grow iris plants in your area.
