Ornamental tree for pond

Kearney, NE(Zone 5a)

I am building a new pond and waterfall and am wanting a small tree to put next to it. It will be in full sun so I want the tree to partially shade the pond as it grows. In the area(but not very close) is a sunburst locust and a corkscrew willow. Any ideas?

Thanks!

This one might be worth a try...

Corkscrew willow are really messy trees. Lots of little branches fall off all year long. They have a short life expectancy too. Maybe 20 years. Mine is about 30' tall and 12 years old now. I think they're neat looking trees with their twisted branches, but what a clean up I'm going to have this year after our nasty winter is through. Lots of branches on the ground.

Something evergreen might be best so you wouldn't have the problem of leaves falling into the pond. Conifers maybe? - there are many dwarf forms.
