Nope! Sedge Warblers live in dense vegetation (sedges, reeds, etc), not on the ground!

Kind of looks like a house sparrow.

I would say some kind of sparrow too. A member of the Family Emberizidae. The beak looks conical to me.

A female Reed Bunting, Emberiza schoeniclus?

Nope! Clue: found on both sides of the Atlantic

My guess would be a Blue Grosbeak with those brown wingbars and silvery beak.

Yep. Bill is not large enough for Blue Grosbeak, which is the other possibility on plumage.

Edit: to clarify, a first-summer bird (~10 months old), which is why it isn't all blue. Pelle's post wasn't there when I started my post!

Congrats Sheila!! Was that pic taken at your home?! I'm so excited for you if it was...and for me because that means they are in our area and I might see one some day!

Yes, the DH took it this week. He was describing it as having blue from the chin down the breast. I was surprised that it was something I hadn't seen before. I think I am going to enjoy his retirement. LOL!

I need some help with the I.D. on this new bird. The best I could come up with was a female Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Congrats nanny!!

I believe this is a Black Chinned Hummer, but I didn't know if they should be in my area yet. The Ruby Throateds have been here a couple weeks, but he definitely doesn't have red on his throat. He is the first hummer I've seen and he's become a real regular already at the feeder on the front porch.

Most of the time you can't see it, but at certain angles I could see a deep purple gorget. I tried for a while to get that angle with the sun to show his purple, but this was the best I could do.

Here he is from the other side with the sun shining on him. I thought you'd be able to see the purple from this angle, but it doesn't show. I'm starting to wonder if I imagined it.
