Roses for me are a very close second to irises. Dang they both smell so good.

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

I snort Lavender and Lemon Verbena ALOT during the growing season.

Williamston, MI(Zone 5b)

Hi Cottage Rose:

I am very close to you in Williamston, MI. and I'm afraid my old roses don't look anything like as good as yours. Could you share info.on how and when you prune them. Thanks

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

cyberiris
Pruning might not be your problem.
It could be any number of things re. poor results with your roses.
If you are growing Hybrid Tea roses they tend to be fussy.
If you buy cheap boxed/bagged/wax roses at local box stores you are getting very poor quality roses with chopped off root sysytems.
Roses are heavy feeders and like lots of water but do not like to be in standing water. They need to be fertilized monthly June - August.
If you go to my website I have some info on growing hardy roses plus there is alot of info online re. growing roses.
And of course check out the rose forum here.
Hope this helps. ;o)

That is such a hard question to answer

Yummy smell

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

Daylilies of course!!!!

Gladwin, MI(Zone 5a)

Good thing we don't have to pick just one.

Bad Axe, Mich., FL(Zone 5a)

My pick would be DAYLILIES!!!!!!!!!!!! Next I would choose Orienpet Lilies, they are wonderful.

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

Doro
What are Orienpets and why do you like them?
I think I have some coming in my lily co-op order.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

I would never be able to pick between Echinacea's and Daylilies. I MUST have both!! With a side of lilies for dessert!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

i luv them Vicky! I have several and more coming! I mix lilies and roses!

These lilies - crosses between Orientals and Trumpets - have been developed to blend the best characteristics of both types. As a group, they offer outstanding vigor, fragrance and color diversity. Their extra thick petals allow them to weather rain and wind well. And, drawing on their Trumpet genetics, these lilies offer warm weather gardeners heat tolerance not found in the Orientals. Orienpets are also more tolerant of alkaline soils, so these are good choices for those with basic soils and a love for the sublime beauty and spicy scents of Oriental lilies.

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

oh I can't choose I love roses daylilys lilies dasies hostas if it flowers I will probubly love it LOL

Greenbush, MI(Zone 4b)

What is the lily co-op? And, can I get involved?

Carol

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Co-op is a forum here at daves where we make HUGE group purchases for less than retail! great plants at great prices!!!!!

Bad Axe, Mich., FL(Zone 5a)

notmartha, thanks for telling about the Orienpet lilies. They are wonderful and grow very tall without the need for staking, usually. Very fragrant too.

Greenbush, MI(Zone 4b)

When and if there is another lily co-op, would you mind if I joined in?

Carol

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

any one can join them!!!! :)

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

macsie be warned, notmartha is the #1 co-op enabler!! LOL

Hamtramck, MI(Zone 6a)

I can't pick just one. I am addicted to peonies, and lilac. Can not get enough of either. Unfortunately, since I am only starting up this new garden, there isn't much likleyhood I will have much in the way of peonies this year, and there don't seem to be ANY lilacs here in Hamtramck (frown.. no midnight raids...)

Elizabeth

Maple City, MI(Zone 6a)

I would have to say Columbines. Second favorite would be lilac.
