I hope these photos come out.Here in perth it is just grey sand so a lot of work has to go in to improve and convert to soil.I have added paper, sawdust many types of manure and I always mulch with sheep poo.I believe (could be wrong) that a tropical garden is a collection of various shades of green( I will be shot down by the rose growers lol) I have a variety of self moulting palms including , Golden Cane.Alexandra.Triangulars , banglows.Plant wise I have manlyCoreelines Yukkas and other semi shade plants
