I've only seen this plant growing in the wild one time. We were jeeping in the southern portion of Sierra County in New Mexico on September 1, 2006. It was growing in a small patch maybe 8x10 feet. The mass of cooling refreshingly colored flowers just took my breath away. A real "Honey stop the jeep" moment
I have a couple of beds built in with barriers so even though this plant can spread by root I may try it. Queen butterflies are abundant where I live & they like this plant!
Most likely it is Conoclinium greggii

as that is the only Conoclinium that I can find that is listed as native to NM.

Angele, it is Conoclinium gregii, we call it West Texas Mist Flower, and it is a magnet for butterflies indeed, right up there with Coneflowers.
Nice looking plant!
