OK being a newbie I don't really know what vegetables I could possibly start planting now. I was thinking some lettuce and maybe some turnips, the last time I tried broccoli and cauliflower I failed miserably so there won't be either of those. Can potatoes and carrots go in now?

Turnips, potatoes, carrots, beets and spinach can go in now. Next week is supposed to be a lovely week for it!
I'd hold off a bit on lettuces, just because we had a few nights of really cold weather again this past week.
Don't forget to hill your potatoes and continue adding dirt to the hill!
