I was washing out some pots to plant seeds in with some soapy water and had set them aside to rinse when I thought: why bother?
Would a little soapy residue hurt seed germination? I haven't the faintest idea, but if ivory soap is good for your skin (as used to be advertised) would it bother roots? It might even lower the surface tension of the water which could even be good? Hmm. Considering the vast pool of experience on the NE forum, could someone hazard a guess?
Would soap hurt seeds?
Sounds just about right to me.
The soap won't hurt them a bit. I use Ivory Snow sometimes to spray on plants, along with a sticking agent, to get rid of bugs. Won't hurt the seeds or the plants..
Would be nice if it helped the germination rate approach 99 44/100%
Ha! Good one Victor. Do they still say that?
Not sure.
I wouldn't worry about the minor soap residue either.
After I make a major mess on my brick terrace I wash it down with bleach (often stronger than 10:1) and it's never harmed a plant yet.
Funny, Victor!
Thanks Pirl. After the bleach, are the white flowers whiter?
Brilliantly white!
Seriously, it doesn't even change the hosta, dahlias, creeping Jenny or any plant.
My pool water never hurt anything either.
Thanks for the advice.
'Twas just a idle thought, but it's nice to have one's curiosity satisfied.
