How do you keep them down?
Doesn't look like they are smooshed so how do you keep them from just poppin up to the top? Do you just pack them in there and then add the water?

I did just pack them in there and filled up with water. They still move, which is what makes them interesting to make because you don't know exactly what they will turn out like. I used some twigs horizontaly which helps to hold the flowers down too.
I think Traci used a pincushion to hold her flowers and Sallyblooms used the stones for anchorage.
I hope Sallysblooms comes back with some more and tells us what she does!

I did use the pincushion/FROG! It is so heavy, it just pulled it down to the bottom.
Don't the flowers turn moldy under the water? I think I ammissing something somewhere? (scratches head)

The flowers would turn mouldy if they were left in dirty water for days and bacteria was allowed to build up.
If you change the water everyday, they are fine, I use old and fresh flowers.
It's not a traditional way to flower arrange , but it's nice to experiment sometimes!

Are you doing a miniature arrangement for the flower club this weekend? I haven't started mine yet.
I bet silk flowers would work in this type of arrangement too and then you would not have to worry about the mold/decay problem.
Yep I go tme some minature flowers fresh from garden just need my camers now ; ( can't figure where i left it.
I don't know, seems silk might mold too, cuz they a fabric right, dont fabrics mold when they get wet too long. Not sure.
I think some experiments may give us the answers!
How long does a 'normal' arrangement last in oasis? 1week maybe2?
So we wouldn't expect an underwater arrangement of flowers to last longer than that?

Hi Elle, Welcome!
sorry I missed your post earlier.
Basically, Use a clear vase 'arrange' some flowers and foliage in the vase,
pour in water slowly.............underwater arrangement done!
You can use a 'frog' to anchor flowers if you want a more realistic scene and
decorate with stones ,twigs, glass objects etc.

Mine is done with a frog or pin. It is a circular heavy metal piece with prongs sticking up. I will try to find a pic. I started by sticking different lenghts of tulips in the way I wanted them to look and dropped the frog in. It is heavy enough to hold the flowers. I then covered it with heart peebles.
As for other types, such as the vase filled with water and petals, it is really a simple but great idea. I THINK how you do it is to start with some water in the vase and add petals. When it fills up with petals, add more water. Continue until you reach the top. On Sally's first pic, I love that she manuveured a flower in the front and imagine you would have to do that after the vase is filled with petals so the flower doesn't move.
The arrangement of the flowers on top is done the same, so no top is necessary. You just plop the arrangement into the water/petal concoction. Although Sally's second post does have a top and I think that is neat.
Just remember, they won't last but a week or so and make sure to change the water.

Naw, I just have to acknowledge Princess Kathy in every post. Have to admit, I am not good at remembering.
The elderly will love this and it will brighten their day. Once you figure it out, it will be simple. Good luck and please show us what you come up with. DON'T be embarassed, you should see my first ones I started in.....October, I think.

They lasted only about 3 days, but I didn't condition them or change the water. It was a solid three days. I bet, if done right you could get 5.

I really don't know how long they will last, but if I were taking them to an old folks home I would be changing the displays every week! (thats just me)!
If I end up in an old folks home, I would be delighted with a sweet girl like you bringing in flower displays , that would really brighten up the place and cheer me up!!
