buying a laptop

I am looking into buying a laptop... Most now come with Vista. I was looking at the Inspiron 1525 and wanted to know if this was a ok laptop as I am not using it for big things... Just to get on line and make a few files so I can read them later... Also I hear VISTA is awful? is it? Also heard you need more memory with it? I don't really know much about computers so any help would be great.... Also there is one 1520 that would take 6 weeks to get here but it does come with Windows xp... I did not want to bite the bullet with using xp and I did fine so am I over reacting or do I have worries if I try Vista?
