Kiwi fruit

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Anybody out there growing kiwi fruit? I would like to try it. Any information would be welcome.

I tried to grow Hardy Kiwi (Actinidia arguta) but it succumbed to what looked like a wilt.

Mary,

In your zone you will not be able to grow the typical brown fuzzy kiwi that you see in supermarkets. Instead will you grow the "Hardy Kiwi" as chuck mentioned. These are alot smaller and green skinned. I can not vouch for the taste of these since I never tasted one but supposedly they are similar to the regular kiwi.

Mary,

The label from my plant said:

"Native to Northern China, the Hardy Kiwi (Actinidia arguta) is an attractive, vigorous vine with delicious and nutritious fruit. Closely related to the fuzzy Kiwi found in supermarkets, the Hardy Kiwi has the same delicious flavor, is even sweeter, and is hairless, so you can eat it skin and all like a grape. The fruit is larger than a grape (up to 1 1/2" long), and has ten times the vit. C of lemons. When mature the vine can bear over 100 lbs. of fruit and is hardy to at least -25 F."

Variety ISSAI is supposed to be self-fertile and require no pollinator.
