I have four pineapple guavas that are dying. They have a black soot on the underside of the leaves and the branches have become brittle and are breaking off. On one of the bushes, all of the leaves are dead and the limbs just snap off. Has anyone experienced this and suggest a treatment?
black soot on pineapple guava
Can you post a picture of the sooty stuff and maybe one of the whole plant as well?
Well, when the leaves are dead and the limbs just snap off, that plant is dead.
There are sucking insects that will cause a sooty mold to form on the TOP of leaves. Do you have any on top?
Or - Is the "black soot" you are seeing under the leaves actually a black scale. Look closely. There is a black scale that attacks these plants. They suck the sap from the plant and the leaves become discolored on the top side.
