Nerve damage from oral surgery

Hi all,
My daughter had several wisdom teeth removed shortly before Christmas. Part of her tongue, nearly half, is still numb. Dentist says this is not unusual. Has anyone else experienced this, did sensation finally return, and are there any remedies?
