how common is a fever after surgery?

A few weeks ago I had my top teeth out. I had a fever before surgery, because I had abscesses around my teeth, but I still have it. I am wondering if maybe I still have a fever simply because of surgery. It has gone down in response to various treatments, but it comes back up. I had a fever before surgery because I had abscesses around my teeth.
