Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Can someone please explain what this is, what it does and if it is necessary.

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

It is a nitrogen fixing bacteria. Don't use it myself as I have never found any benefit.

I am with dill Hard to beat good soil but its sold so some think they should buy it. Here is a blurb by a seller. Ernie

Bean Inoculant

Most legume crops such as beans and peas rely on naturally occurring, nitrogen-fixing bacteria called rhizobium to reach their full-yield potential. Dusting your dampened seeds with this easy-to-use product containing 3 different types of rhizobial bacteria, assures that these beneficial organisms will be present in the root zone, thereby increasing plant vigor and boosting yields. Treats up to 5 lbs. of seed.

Thanks- I used to grow beans in Illinois and didn't have a problem. I just saw it recommended on the Heirloom Acres site. I don't want to spend the extra money if it is unnecessary.

It's good to use if you are planting legumes in an area where they haven't grown before, like sod. Otherwise, the stuff is already there in the soil.
